'RESTORATION(?) GONE BAD

Here are some photos of parts from cars purchased as 'restored'. Some are just sloppy work, others....
It's amazing what poor work can be palmed off as restoration. If you have a story of a messy 'restoration' you'd like to share, please send photos. Maybe we can save someone from spending restoration prices for 'messtoration'.

It is just too much trouble to find a good late gas shut off valve. I just use a water valve used on toilets, and some copper tubing.
I can't believe this one!

It's too much trouble to fill in the pits on original brake stop light rod. Of course if you leave the pits in the brake rod, the brake rod will slide sideways and pedal won't return, (unless of course you add the non original brake pedal return spring).

It's too much trouble to weld the carriage bolt hole shut and drill and square it off again.
I'll just weld the bolt in place!

Original interiors are too expensive
I'll use crushed velvet

Couldn't remove a wheel.
Wrong bolts, welded in place.

The truck leaned.
Here's the rear crossmember. The crossmember cracked and was welded out of alignment, and the weld slag was holding the frame off the spring

Why buy the right studs, when you can use short ones, and hardware store washers?

Nobody really uses the emergency brake...do they? Bent carrier and missing parts.

Why go to all the trouble of rebuilding the steering column or align it properly, or find the right rod? Just bend the control rod you've got!
